The Christmas lights in Barga were switched on last weekend as part of the Barga Cioccolata celebrations (article here) but what was really missing from that event were the Christmas trees. The recession has gradually been biting here in the city and this year the Christmas trees in evidence are considerably smaller and less evident that past years but over the last couple of days on the Fosso just outside the main walls of Barga Vecchia that has been changed with the erection of a large Christmas tree to the right of the Mordini Statue. For the moment is completely unadorned and without lights but according to Flavio Guidi in the Cultural Office of the Comune this morning, the tree will be decorated in time for this weekends events. In the meantime the pupils at the Elementary school here in Barga were on the Fosso yesterday helping to celebrate the Christmas holidays.
It was a completely unpublicised event (as often happens here in Barga ) and it was only by chance that the barganews award winning photographer O’Connor happened to be passing the Fosso on his way to another assignment and so we have some images to share with the barganews readers.
