The Flag Returns to the Duomo for the Feast of Saint Christopher
As tradition dictates, a flag now flies once again from the bell tower of Barga’s Duomo to mark the beginning of the week-long celebrations in honour of the city’s patron saint, Saint Christopher.
A short ceremony took place this morning atop the bell tower, where the blue flag of Barga was raised above the city, accompanied by the sound of the bells ringing their distinctive “doppio”.
In recent years, the original flagpole and flag had become unusable due to weather damage and other incidents. In 2016, the flag was replaced with a new design that better reflects the significance of the event. With the support of Don Stefano, a symbolic image of Saint Christopher was added—depicting the saint guiding a boat safely on its journey, a fitting metaphor for his protective role.
Meanwhile, across Barga Vecchia, signs of the upcoming feast are appearing in shop windows, where images of Saint Christopher are being displayed in quiet anticipation of the celebration.

La Bandiera Torna sul Duomo per la Festa di San Cristoforo
Come vuole la tradizione, una bandiera è tornata a sventolare sul campanile del Duomo di Barga per segnare l’inizio della settimana di festeggiamenti in onore del patrono della città, San Cristoforo.
Questa mattina si è svolta una breve cerimonia in cima al campanile: la bandiera blu di Barga è stata issata sopra la città, accompagnata dal suono caratteristico del “doppio” delle campane.
Negli ultimi anni, la bandiera originale e il suo supporto erano diventati inutilizzabili a causa delle intemperie e di altri danni. Nel 2016 è stata realizzata una nuova bandiera, con un disegno che rappresenta meglio il significato della ricorrenza. Con il sostegno di Don Stefano, è stata aggiunta l’immagine simbolica di San Cristoforo che indica la rotta a una barca—una metafora del suo ruolo protettivo.
Nel frattempo, per le vie di Barga Vecchia, iniziano ad apparire immagini del santo anche nelle vetrine dei negozi, in attesa silenziosa della festa ormai vicina.
