It has been a long summer season for the bars and restaurants in Barga Vecchia which for some businesses carried on right through the autumn and to the start of November.
Now it is time of year where the levels of tourism to the city fall back and gives time for a well earned rest.
In fact many of the restaurants are shut and it can be difficult to get even a cup of coffee in November in Barga vecchia (and once again difficult in February)
Each year we publish an article pointing out that in a city where intelligent tourism is the most likely way forward, all restaurants, trattorias and bars closing at the same time does not give a very positive image to the city. Although three have have shut their doors, three are still open, so things are looking slightly better this year.
One which stayed open 7 days a week right through the season was the unofficial cultural centre of Barga, Da Aristo’s in Piazza Salvo Salvi.
This week they are having vital infrastructure work done to remedy a problem with has dogged the bar for months. Finally after many attempts to solve a blocked tube including sending video cameras down to inspect the problem they “bit the bullet” and brought in workmen from the Guidi Edilizia to pull up the tiles and redo the whole system.
The bar will remain closed until the 2nd December.
