MOUNT TABOR ECUMENICAL CENTRE FOR ART AND SPIRITUALITY
The villa at Via delle Mura 10 in Barga, LU, now called “Via Sacra,” is home to the new Mount Tabor Ecumenical Centre for Art and Spirituality, which will be officially opening with festivities and services of prayer on June 26 and 27.
The Mount Tabor Centre aims to inspire and promote visual and performing arts, organize and support educational programs and opportunities, and facilitate ecumenical exchange. Providing a context for reflection and discussion about faith and creativity, contemplation and communication, liturgy and beauty, the Mount Tabor Centre offers spiritual retreats and study visits, organizes lectures and international symposia on issues and trends in the arts today, facilitates ecumenical dialogue on monastic history and spirituality in music and the arts, and presents exhibits of contemporary sacred art, choral concerts, and theatre productions.
The Mount Tabor Centre was founded by the ecumenical Benedictine Community of Jesus from the United States. A small household of members from the Community of Jesus welcomes visitors and guests to the villa, with a spirit of hospitality. The Mount Tabor Centre offers the Community of Jesus an opportunity to expand its mission to an international level, promoting the study of three central aspects of the Community’s life: monastic spirituality, sacred art, and ecumenical exchange.
Monsignor Timothy Verdon (article here) and Dr. Filippo Rossi of Florence, direct the Academic and Artistic Programs at the Mount Tabor Centre.
