The Perugia Funking band first made their debut at the Barga Jazz Festival during 2008 – they were so well received that they were invited back the following year but in the intervening 12 months something dramatic happened – their rhythm section took on a new lease of life with the addition of a Cuban percussionist and Brazilian-based drummer. During 2008 they were good – in 2009 they were stunning. They marched through Barga Vecchia with verve, style and an almost hypnotic backbeat. How on earth did the Brazilian with a drum strapped to his chest and two sticks manage to produce a sound as close to a double bass pedal? However he did it, it was the engine that drove the whole P-funking Band.
This year they were back again for the opening session of the Festa della Piazzette. As the tape was cut to start the ten days of festa here in Barga Vecchia the trumpet sounded and the P.Funking Band were off and running right through the castle stopping off only to refuel and catch their breath in Piazza San Felice, before once more striding though the narrow streets of Barga Vecchia now resounding with the sound of brass and drums.
P-Funking Band nasce dalla passione comune di un gruppo di giovani musicisti di estrazione artistica diversa, che hanno deciso di dare vita ad una marching band, attualmente unica in Umbria, che fonde nelle sue performance musica e movimento. Una miscela esplosiva di funk, disco music, jazz, rhythmnblues e soul rivisitata in chiave marching, a ciò si sommano le coreografie a cui partecipa tutta la band! Questo è ciò che propone la P-Funking Band: ritmo trascinante, un repertorio accattivante che non si limita a far ballare ma risulta originale grazie ad arrangiamenti inusuali ed insoliti, coreografie e lecletticità di quindici musicisti tra i 22 e i 27 anni. Tutti gli spettacoli risultano energici e coinvolgenti. La P-Funking Band oltre che esibirsi su un palco sfila, marciando e ballando, tra le vie cittadine e tra lo stesso pubblico che si sente parte dello spettacolo.
