The final whistle blew and only 5 minutes later the air in Barga was rent by the sound of car horns as jubilant Inter Milan fans took to their cars as they formed a convoy of flag waving supporters which toured the area for an hour or so informing the rest of the population that their team had won their 5th consecutive Serie A title.
Diego Milito scored the only goal in the second half of the match at Stadio Artemio Franchi as they finished the season two points clear of Roma, who were 2-0 winners at Chievo. Sampdoria took the final Champions League place.
The win secured Inter’s second title under José Mourinho and makes them the first team to win five back-to-back Scudetti since Juventus achieved the feat in the 30s.
Inter’s success also sealed a double following their victory in the final of the Coppa Italia this month, and they will now set their sights Bayern Munich in the Champions League final on Saturday.
Mourinho’s side survived an early scare when Albin Ekdal fired just wide for relegated Siena, who with the pressure off were always likely to make it an uncomfortable afternoon.

Inter gradually found their feet, however, and were unlucky not to be ahead at the interval as Siena’s goalkeeper Claudio Terzi produced fine saves to deny Milito and Samuel Eto’o. Mario Balotelli also saw a bicycle kick come back of the crossbar.
But 12 minutes after the restart they made the breakthrough as Javier Zanetti flicked the ball behind the defence for Milito, who fired it home.
Roma were comfortable winners at Chievo but to no avail. Mirko Vucinic put them ahead in the 39th minute after Francesco Totti had earlier hit a post. Daniele de Rossi doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time and the Giallorossi held on without major scares.
Sampdoria won a place in the Champions League with a victory over Napoli which preserved their unbeaten home record. A goal from Giampaolo Pazzini early in the second half sealed the points as they saw off the challenge of Palermo to join Inter, Roma and Milan in Europe’s elite club competition.
