The very successful bed and breakfast establishment Casa Fontana run by Ron and Susi Gauld in Barga Vecchia opens its door this weekend after the short winter layoff.
To celebrate the start of the season they held a party in the gardens of the house for many of their friends here in Barga.
Ron and Susie decided to celebrate the start of spring with a traditional pig roast. The roasting over a wood fire took three hours with some sophisticated equipment turning the pig at a constant speed. Luckily there were many experts on hand to give advice and consultation on all subjects pertaining to pig roasting from the time needed, the type of wood needed and type of fire.
A precisely 8.30 pm the pig was pronounced cooked and the party began in earnest. Amongst the guests were spotted many members of the Lake Angels – they too know something about pigs and pig roasts.
The season has now been officially opened here in Barga Vecchia – Last years pig roast can be seen here

Hey wow!!! Looks like a great time had by all! Wish I was there again this year! Oh well lets hope we can make sure to be there nest year!
Here to a great season ahead!
I thought you were on a macrobiotic diet.
Sommocolonia once, (hour each way— straight from via Acquedotto- no bus invloved) and many times to Tiglio Basso, (45 mins each way-watch out for those damn dogs) and once on up to Tiglio Alto, exactly 3.0 miles (4.8 km) each way from the house on Della Speranza (GPS). And of course we walked down to l'orto and back as well to tend the strawberries… in our rubber boots we bought in town no less!!! So a little pig roast would not have killed me!!!
