One of the casualties of the extreme weather conditions that has hit this area over the last 10 days was the Arte Fiera exhibition in Castelnuovo. The day of the opening of this exhibition temperatures dropped far below freezing, roads were blocked by snow and black ice made any form of travelling hazardous or in many cases downright impossible. Most of the Barga artists represented in this exhibition could not get to their own exhibition. Some of them only turning up for five days later when the thaw had finally released their cars and made the roads passable.
The exhibition in Palazzo Azzi in the main piazza- Piazza Umberto in Castelnuovo will close on 31 December but according to the curator Annamaria Grassi and the organiser Vassiliki Lambrou, even though turnout had been low, it should not in any sense be thought of in negative terms as those who did spend time wandering round the eight rooms in the gallery expressed their pleasure and interest in the work exhibited and also for the new space now available for future exhibitions.
The gallery inside the Palazzo is a new space organised by the Centro Culturale Altri Mondi Possibili who have great hopes for future exhibitions in Castelnuovo.
There eight artists exhibiting at the exhibition were – Giancarlo Borgioli, Luciana Pierini, Gabriele Levrini, Lucia Pedri; all from the Garfagnana area and Sandra Rigali, Caterina Salvi, Fabrizio Da Prato and Keane; all from the Barga area.
The exhibition is at the Palazzo Azzi in the main piazza- Piazza Umberto in Castelnuovo and will run from the 19th December until 31st December.
