Début this evening for a new blues band at the Barga Jazz Club. The Burning Room Blues Band is a new name for most of the regulars at the club but a quick look through the list of the band members shows some old friends to the music scene in Barga.
Lorenzo Marianelli, guitarist from Pisa was one of the guitar tutors at the Scuola Musica Barga. JJ.Carde was also the drum tutor at the same Scuola Musica and the drummer with the now defunct Jack’s Pack blues band. …. and isn’t Gino Marchi none other than Gino Tonico, the bass player from Jack’s Pack ?
And what a début it was too with JJ and Gino showing that they have not been wasting their time away from the stage … taking their crafting of the rhythm section for the band up a notch … these guys are now positively humming.

Last time we saw Sara Bergamini on stage it was as a demure singer fronting the Barga Jazz Little Orchestra singing jazz oldies and goldies as part of the Turnaround events – tonight she was from another planet — assured, dynamic, obviously enjoying herself communicating with the audience and extremely ….. sexy.
As for the guitarist Lorenzo Marianelli – is he good or what ?
According to him he started late only get into music at 17 years old, but he has since made up for that “late start”, studying under Luca Giovacchini e Leo Boni and then recently at l’Università della Musica in Rome with Giovanni Di Caprio, guitarist for Antonello Venditti and Franco Vinci.
We’re goin down
And you can see it too
We’re goin down
And you know that we’re doomed
My dear
We’re slow dancing in a burnin room– John Mayer – Slow Dancing In A Burning Room
High points of the evening – a stunning version of the John Mayer song – Slow Dancing In A Burning Room (where the band incidentally get their name) and the final song of the evening – Bold as love by Jimi Hendrix which gave the band a chance to show off some of their talents to the full.
