Something different was happening in Barga Vecchia yesterday afternoon. As the Medieval Crossbow competition – Giochi di Balestra del Calendimaggio – held every year in Barga during May (article here) was taking place up at the Duomo, a troop of medieval entertainers were working hard elsewhere in the city.
Stilt walkers were seen in Piazza Comune and a troupe of dancers were entertaining people in Piazza Angelio.
The highlight of the day for most of children (and a good few adults as well) was the “I Viaggiatore” group, part of the Compagnia del Gran Mastro Burattinaio from Viareggio. Their mix of burlesque and irreverent humour was just what the doctor ordered.
Let’s hope that they return to Barga as they only played a small part of their set. Come back “I Viggiatore” please.
