Barga Jazz, nato nel
1986 è un concorso che dà la possibilità
ai musicisti interessati di avere a disposizione un’orchestra
professionale di alto livello consentendogli di verificare
le proprie capacità e di presentare il proprio lavoro
ad un pubblico qualificato ed a una giuria di esperti del
settore. Molti degli arrangiatori che si sono presentati
a Barga Jazz come concorrenti sono poi diventati dei professionisti
proprio nel campo specifico dell’arrangiamento e della
composizione.
Sinteticamente il concorso si svolge come segue:
· Pubblicazione del bando
di concorso
· Invio da parte degli interessati delle partiture
· Selezione da parte di una apposita commissione
delle partitura verificando anche che siano corrispondenti
a quanto richiesto dal bando (inerenza al tema indicato,
corrispondenza dell’organico ecc..)
· Formazione dell’orchestra (20 professionisti
di provata esperienza e capacità) diretti dal M0
Bruno Tommaso che in cinque giorni di prove metterà
a fuoco i brani selezionati.
· Esecuzione in pubblico alla presenza di una giuria
internazionale che assegnerà i premi ai vincitori
consegnati dalle autorità locali.
A questo, che è l’essenza della manifestazione
ed anche ciò che la qualifica sul piano culturale,
si aggiungono una serie di concerti, convegni, proiezioni,
mostre, musica on the road ecc., che trasformano il concorso,
che pure ha un’ impianto culturale ed accademico,
in una festa animata e divertente anche per chi non è
particolarmente appassionato di jazz.
Barga
Jazz, founded in 1986,
is a competition which offers interested musicians an
opportunity to have a professional, high quality
orchestra at their disposal, and allows them to explore
their abilities and present their work to a qualified
audience and panel of experts in the field.
Many arrangers who have made their debut at Barga Jazz
as competitors have gone on to become professionals in
the specific flelds of musical arrangement and composition.
Essentially, the competition proceeds as follows:
· Publication of the call to the competition
· Interested musicians send their musicai scores
· The scores ave selected by a special committee,
checking that these comply with the competition regulations
(adherence to the theme, correspondence to the organic,
etc.)
· The orchestra is assembled (20 professionals
having proven experience and skills), conducted by Maestro
Bruno Tommaso who, during the five days of rehearsals,
will focus on the selected pieces.
· Public peiformance in the presence of an internationai
jury which will select the winners of the prizes awarded
by local public figures.
This is the essence of the event and is also what qualifies
it from a cultural standpoint.
Add to this a series of concerts, conferences, film previews,
exhibitions, and “on-the-road” music, which
has transformed the competition from a purely cultural
and academic initiative into a lively and entertaining
festival for those who may not be particular jazz enthusiasts.
