The 25th April is the day that Italy commemorates the liberation of the country by Allied troops in the Second World War. The holiday is meant to honour all those who died during the war, from soldiers fighting overseas to civilian victims of Allied bombings and atrocities committed during Nazi Germany’s bitter retreat from its former ally’s territory. The lives of those who served as partisans in the Italian Resistance are especially honoured.
Unseasonal cold weather had meant that some events which would normally take place today were cancelled or postponed but the sun finally poking through the clouds late in the afternoon did bring some crowds to the Piazza Salvi in Barga Vecchia and they were rewarded by some live music from three members of the Aristodemos (their site can be seen here) and some of the other local musicians.
Also in the piazza the return of Noah Tortelli – barganews regular readers will remember that we have been following closely the career of Noah “Heraclitus” Tortelli for more than a decade (all the articles since 2008 can be seen here)
He started with the band, The Salamanders; Noah Heraclitus Tortelli: Voice, Guitar, Harmonica | Marco Lugliani: Lead Guitar | Giuseppe Jos Venturi: Bass Guitar | Diego Bacci: Drum & Percussion and has since moved on to new fields and new horizons first in Florence and then moving on to Prague, where he now lives.
The Aristodemo’s are: Andrea Gonnella (Vocals), Keane (percussioni / percussion), Alessandro Rizzardi (Mandolino / Mandolin and Sax), Fabio Guazzelli (chitarra / guitar), Leo Gnesi on double–bass, Francesco Massagli (fisarmonica)
The band came together in the winter of 2009 when local musicians Alessandro Rizzardi (mandolino), Keane (Percussioni), Fabio Guazelli (chitarra), Leo Gnesi (contro bass), and Andrea Gonnella (cantante) found each other in Aristo’s enoteca, with instruments in hand, and exciting ideas in mind and of course, passion in heart.
Focusing mainly on forgotten swing Italiano from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s, The Aristodemos welcome you to jump back in time and into their salotto. You may also hear something contemporary swung into Aristo gear.

Il 25 aprile è il giorno in cui l’Italia commemora la liberazione del paese dalle truppe alleate nella Seconda Guerra Mondiale. La festa è destinata ad onorare tutti coloro che sono morti durante la guerra, dai soldati che combattevano all’estero alle vittime civili dei bombardamenti alleati e delle atrocità commesse durante la dura ritirata della Germania nazista dal territorio del suo ex alleato. Le vite di coloro che hanno servito come partigiani nella Resistenza italiana sono particolarmente onorate.
Il tempo freddo fuori stagione ha significato che alcuni eventi che normalmente si svolgono oggi sono stati cancellati o posticipati, ma il sole che finalmente ha fatto capolino tra le nuvole nel tardo pomeriggio ha portato qualche folla in Piazza Salvi a Barga Vecchia e sono stati ricompensati da un po’ di musica dal vivo da tre membri degli Aristodemos (il loro sito può essere visto qui) e da alcuni degli altri musicisti locali.
Anche in piazza è tornato Noah Tortelli – i lettori abituali di barganews ricorderanno che abbiamo seguito da vicino la carriera di Noah “Eraclito” Tortelli per più di un decennio (tutti gli articoli dal 2008 possono essere visti qui).
Ha iniziato con la band, The Salamanders; Noah Heraclitus Tortelli: Voce, Chitarra, Armonica | Marco Lugliani: Chitarra solista | Giuseppe Jos Venturi: Basso | Diego Bacci: Batteria e Percussioni e da allora si è spostato verso nuovi campi e nuovi orizzonti prima a Firenze e poi trasferendosi a Praga, dove vive ora.
