Last minute preparations for Garibaldi

Saturday 31st March is the grand opening of the new Museo dell Memoria in Piazza Garibaldi with the first exhibition there dedicated to celebrations for the birth of Giuseppe Garibaldi two hundred years ago. The new museum has been built on the site of a palazzo hit by artillery during the last world war and left as a rubble for 60 years. A new complex has been built comprising museum, gardens and viewing terraces.

La Valle avrà il primato nella corsa ai festeggiamenti del bicentenario della nascita di Giuseppe Garibaldi che prevede in tutta Italia l’organizzazione di migliaia di iniziative a carattere locale e nazionale e la mostra che verrà realizzata a Barga sarà la più importante esposizione garibaldina organizzata in tutta la Provincia. L’appuntamento inaugurale si terrà appunto a Barga il prossimo 31 marzo. L’organizzazione delle iniziative di Barga, e poi di Castelnuovo Garfagnana e Coreglia, è curata da un comitato promotore che vede la presidenza dell’avv. Leonardo Mordini, nipote del prodittatore garibaldino Antonio Mordini. La mostra di Barga, aperta fino al 4 luglio, sarà ospitata nelle nuove sale della memoria che il comune di Barga inaugurerà proprio in quel giorno. Una sezione raccoglierà i cimeli, per lo più quadri garibaldini della collezione fornita dall’ex prefetto di Lucca Francesco Tronca.
